The Script tab allows us to write the script of our history. You can add the steps in any order and reorder them subsequently, in addition to being able to add or delete a particular scene at any given time. We must enter the name of the step and a brief description of what happens in it. The Outline tab is the first one that we will use to add steps to our history. The text editor includes tools to format the script: bold, italic, underline, ordered lists, tab, etc. Thanks to the toolbar, we can add, delete and rearrange steps of the Outline. The interface is very simple and is organized by tabs, which allow us to browse through all the options and functionalities of this software. In addition, we can structure and plan the story easily: mark acts with different colors, reorganize the scenes, keep track of characters' evolution, format the screenplay, and compare our history with famous Hollywood films. In this way, we can develop each scene's story, characters, and script. This software uses the Step Outline technique, which consists of a list of the scenes in our story, and a brief description. Professionals and beginners can use Movie Outline in screenwriting. We'll need a tool that assists us in the complex task of creating a good script. It is not enough to write the script in a text document to achieve that. Our script should contain a good structure and a good pace in the scenes to combine the emotions to get the audience's desired reaction. Speaking personally, in my entire career I have only come across one incorrectly formatted script that turned out to be worth reading. The writer has not been around long enough to know the difference. There are only two reasons why a script would not be in correct format. The most important reason that you need to know, though, is that any professional in the industry will be very wary of a script that is not in correct format. On the other hand, many don't!Īnother, more credible, explanation is that the cinema layout we use gives a good visual balance between description and dialogue, ensuring that if there is too much of either then it shows up in a very obvious way. And yet it is true that most scripts, if the balance of dialogue and action is about right, tend to work out at a page a minute. Well, dialogue tends to run faster (2 pages per minute or so) while action can be much, much slower (on Cimino's Deer Hunter there's a party described in a couple of lines that runs for over four minutes on its own). One is that the specific use of non-proportional courier font and the designated layout makes scripts conform closely to 1 page per minute. There are a number of possible answers that go around. This is more an issue with cinema and feature length TV scripts than with other forms of TV, which tend to be less prescriptive, but the fact is that it is crucially important to use the correct format for any feature length drama script.
